ENTANGLED:

NATURE'S DWELLING

We are all intimately connected with the natural world around us. From the air we breathe to the food we eat, nature sustains and nourishes us in countless ways. But as we continue to alter and exploit our environment, we risk losing touch with the delicate balance that keeps us all alive.

As humanity faces the consequences of its unsustainable practices, we are reminded of the intricate relationship we share with our environment. The natural world provides us with the resources we need to survive, yet our exploitation of it threatens our very existence.

In "Entangled: Nature's Dwelling," we explore the intricate and ever-evolving relationship between humanity and the natural world. The exhibition features works that highlight the delicate balance between nature and constructed environments, and the ways in which we can live sustainably in this entangled world.

From fine art pieces to sculptures and furniture, "Entangled" celebrates the creativity and ingenuity of artists who are observing and intervening with nature, and responding to the urgent need for ecological awareness and action.

As we navigate the collection, we will encounter the vibrant energy of the natural world and the ways in which it influences and shapes our lives. We will be invited to reflect on our own relationship with the environment and consider the ways in which we can contribute to a more sustainable future.

"Entangled: Living with Nature" seeks to inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of the environment, and the urgent need for us to live in harmony with it. Let us embrace our entanglement with nature and work together to create a world that is sustainable and equitable for all.

MISSION

In "Entangled: Living with Nature," we embark on a journey through the intricacies of our relationship with the natural world. Based in New York and divided into three parts, our collection invites you to explore the raw beauty of nature and our interpretations of it, the ways in which we intervene and coexist with it, and our reflections on our intimate connection with it.

As we journey through this collection, we are reminded of the intrinsic connection we share with the natural world, and the responsibility we hold in preserving and nurturing it. "Entangled" celebrates the beauty and importance of nature and invites us to explore our role in living harmoniously with it.

My budget for collecting is $800,000. The total price of these 12 objects is $649,090, exclusive of the shipping fee. Except for one object shipping from Spain, the rest are shipped from the same city.

Resources in collecting

The twelve works in our collection were sourced from various galleries and auction houses, including Christie's, Sotheby's, Objective Gallery, Nara Roesler, Gagosian and Sabrina Amrani.

Auctions can be a particularly useful source of information on provenance, as auction houses usually provide detailed documentation and provenance information for each piece.

I also make a point to reach out to galleries directly for further information and background on particular artists and their works. This allows me to deepen my understanding of the creative process and inspiration behind each piece, as well as any environmental themes or messages that may be present.

In addition to these more traditional sources of information, I also sought out articles and guidelines related to the intersection of art and climate change. This included exploring the syllabus for the course "Art & Climate Change" instructed by Professor Joshua Shannon at the University of Maryland in Spring 2023. Through this research, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the ways in which artists are using their work to address issues related to climate change and the environment, and how this work fits into larger conversations about sustainability and the role of the arts in effecting change.

Key Trends and Changing Values

As we collected these works, we observed a growing trend in the art world towards creating art that promotes ecological awareness and action. Artists are increasingly using recycled and sustainable materials in their work, and their themes often address urgent environmental issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss. We also noted a shift in values towards sustainability and responsible stewardship of the environment, with many collectors and galleries prioritizing works that promote these values.

  • Observations and Interpretations of Nature

As we wander through the first part, we witness the vividness of nature through the eyes of our artists. Flowers, thirteen drawings, wolf with bush and roots, and Sister Sky all convey the beauty of the natural world and how it has inspired us throughout history.

  • The Intervention of Human Beings in the Natural World

The second part showcases our intervention and coexistence with nature. From Navis Coffee Table, the Attributed to Viggo Boesen Sofa and Pair of Easy Chairs, King-Size Bed, to 'Rosace' Low Table, these pieces prompt us to consider the impact of our actions on the natural world and demonstrate the balance we seek between nature and our constructed environments.

  • Reflections on the Relationship Between Human Beings and Nature

Finally, in the third part, we reflect on our relationship with nature and contemplate our impact on it. The works in this section, including Fishing, A coleta da neblina #1, A horta da casa, and Iceberg #5 Disko Bay, Greenland, encourage us to recognize the delicate balance between nature and humanity, and our responsibility to sustain this bond.
